Comparing the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan vs. 2020 Honda CR-V

Volkswagen, “The People’s Car”, looked to the people in 2009 to create the name of their compact SUV. When the smoke cleared, the Tiguan was born. Developed from the German words for Tiger and Iguana, the Tiguan (pronounced TEE-gwan), was born from the people for the people.

The Tiger is known for its willpower, courage and personal strength. In Tantric Buddhism, the Tiger represents a protector from outside harm. While the iguana is considered a symbol of patience, understanding and kindness. Like these two spirit animals, the Tiguan is the perfect balance of strength and patience, while serving as a protector to the most important part of Volkswagen…you!

Is The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan A Good SUV?

If you desire a compact SUV that offers an abundance of cargo space, a smooth ride and tons of standard tech features…then the 2020 Tiguan is a perfect fit for you!

There are plenty of reasons you’re gonna love this Tiguan. First and foremost is passenger space. The Tiguan is both compact and spacious. Offering a third-row seat, something the Honda CR-V doesn’t do, gives the Tiguan the ability to offer the space like a larger SUV without compromising agile handling and excellent fuel economy that only a compact version can offer.

Under The Hood & Performance

The Tiguan features a 184-horsepower, 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. An eight-speed automatic transmission comes standard. The engine of the Tiguan generates enough pep for those daily commutes from West Shore to East Shore, from East Shore to West Shore. Need to cruise down 2nd Street..the Tiguan can handle that, without any sluggish acceleration or delayed throttle response.

If you find yourself to be someone who needs a vehicle that can tow, the Tiguan can do just that. When properly equipped, the Tiguan has the ability to tow up to 1,500 pounds! So towing a small teardrop trailer like The Colorado Teardrop Basedrop , would be no problem for the Tiguan. If you are on the move, a 5×8 cargo trailer from U-Haul can be towed by the Tiguan to help make hauling a little easier for you.

Fuel economy is on par with its rivals. Front-wheel drive earned an EPA estimated 22 mpg in the city and 29 on the highway.

What’s on The Inside?

Front wheel drive models seat seven with three rows. All wheel-drive models have two different configurations to choose from; seating five or seven people. Cloth upholstery heated front seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat and heated steering wheel, all come standard.

The Tiguan’s seats are extra comfortable, offering a solid amount of support. The first two rows are spacious, and the third row can accommodate additional passengers without making them feel cramped for space.

There is an excellent amount of cargo space for a compact SUV. There is 12 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 33 cubic feet behind the second row. If you fold down the third row, you can expand to, a class leading, 65.7 cubic feet.

Technology is not minimized in this SUV, even with its smaller stature. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a 6.5-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, a USB port, a six-speaker sound system and Wi-Fi hot spot lead the list of standard features from the 2020 Tiguan.

If you want added convenience, the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, navigation, an 8-inch touch screen, HD Radio, satellite radio, a nine-speaker Fender premium stereo and two additional USB ports, are all available options. And if those are not enough to wet your whistle, maybe the push-button start, remote start, proximity-keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control and sunroof, will have a more lasting effect for available options.

Is the Tiguan Safe?

The importance of safety is stressed across the Volkswagen brand from the smallest to the largest models from Volkswagen. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2020 Tiguan a five out of five stars rating for a side impact crash test. Once again, the desire of safety is above no other and the NHTSA recognizes that.

In order to keep your family safe while travelling through the treacherous 83/81 interchange near Union Deposit, Volkswagen offers an extensive array of safety technology in the 2020 Tiguan. Blind spot monitoring (not available on the Honda CR-V), rear cross traffic alert, rearview camera and forward collision warning with automatic braking and pedestrian detection all come standard.

To enhance the experience, the Tiguan offers adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive headlights with automatic high beams and surround-view parking camera system, all as available options.

The Verdict Is In

No, the Tiguan can’t take you back to November 5th, 1955 …well, not yet anyway. But it sure does offer just about everything else you could ask from an automobile. An abundance of seating and class leading cargo capacity really put the Tiguan at the head of the class.

The technology, while advanced, is easy to use. Fuel economy, cabin quality and performance all make the 2020 Tiguan the future within the present. GREAT SCOTT!

The Verdict: “Roads? Where We’re Going, We Don’t Need Roads.”
